You're doing everything yourself

Most owners at this stage tell us the same thing. The work is good. The business just isn't steady enough to bet on yet.

  • “If I didn't have my day job, I wouldn't be able to afford my shop or my house.”

Shop owner doing $11,000 to $15,000 a month

  • “Honestly, I don't have like an issue. I just want to grow.”

Mobile tinter doing $8,000 a month

  • “A lot of people are looking for discounts and I don't give discounts.”

Questions owners ask us

Do you work with mobile detailers and tinters?

Yes. About a quarter of the owners we talk to are mobile. As long as you're doing at least $5,000 a month, we'll limit your ads to the area you actually travel to, so you never pay for a lead you can't reach.

I'm under $5,000 a month. Can I still work with you?

Not yet. Below $5,000 a month the numbers rarely work. Build up through referrals and posts first, then talk to us.

I have a day job. Is that a problem?

No. Five of the owners we spoke to recently had a day job or other income. Because our team answers and books your leads, you don't need to be on the phone all day.

What's the smallest ad budget that works?

$30 to $50 a day, which is roughly $900 to $1,500 a month, paid straight to Google or Meta on your own card. Less than that and the ads learn too slowly to find your buyers.

I've never run ads. Do I need to learn?

No. We build and run the ads, the landing page and the CRM, and our team books the leads. You see every booking in your calendar and can check the numbers whenever you like.

Can you help me move from mobile into a shop?

That's exactly what Knox Auto Armor did. They started with us as a mobile business doing $10,000 a month, grew to $50,000 a month and moved into a shop with three installers.

Owner-operators, $5k to $15k: the details

Everything else owners ask before they sign up.

How do I get customers for a mobile detailing or tinting business?

Stop relying only on posts and referrals. Run paid ads inside your service area, send people to a page with your prices and travel area, and reply within minutes. At $5,000 to $15,000 a month, a $30 to $50 a day ad budget is usually enough to fill the open slots in your week.

This is where most of the owners we speak to are. Of 16 recent callers who told us their revenue, 7 were between $5,000 and $15,000 a month. Many were under a year old, five were mobile, and five still had a day job or other income.

  • Work comes from word of mouth, Marketplace, TikTok and Instagram posts.
  • It works while you keep posting. The week you stop, it stops. That's the limit of word-of-mouth marketing.
  • You answer every message yourself, often mid-job.
  • You could take more cars a week than you book.

What owner-operators tell us they want

  • Double revenue, for example from $8,000 to $16,000 a month, or $10,000 to $20,000.
  • Quit the day job and go full-time.
  • Hire a first installer.
  • Move from mobile into a shop.

What Motorgrowth does for a one- or two-person business

We run the ads, build the landing page, set up the CRM and call and book every lead. You don't film, you don't answer the phone between cars, and you can see every booking in your calendar.

  1. 01

    Ads in your service area

Google and Facebook ads limited to where you work. Stock footage already tested across the industry, so no filming.

  2. 02

    A page that filters

Your prices, reviews and travel area on one page. People who only want the cheapest price leave before they call.

  3. 03

    Instant reply

A text goes out in seconds, even when you're under a car.

  4. 04

    We book it

Our team calls, follows up and puts the job in your calendar.

Can I afford a marketing agency at $8,000 a month?

Only if it adds more profit than it costs, so do the math first. With $30 to $50 a day in ad spend and your average job value, work out how many extra jobs a month cover everything. If your calendar has open slots and you close most inquiries, the numbers usually work. Under $5,000 a month, they usually don't, which is why that is our floor.

One owner told us they'd paid an agency $5,000 a month while making $10,000 to $15,000. That's the wrong shape. Your ad spend should be the bigger number, and it should come back several times over. Our clients typically see a return of 5 to 10 times.
