Why do restyling shops get so many price shoppers?
Three reasons: ads and posts that lead with a discount, "message us for a price" calls to action that invite people to ask and leave, and slow replies that let serious buyers book elsewhere while bargain hunters wait. All three are fixable without lowering your price.
On our 2026 sales calls with tint, PPF, coating and detailing owners, price shoppers came up almost as often as inconsistent work. A mobile tinter doing $8,000 a month told us a lot of people are looking for discounts, and that they don't give discounts. A shop owner said people would rather go cheap than go quality. Others called them tire kickers.
Most of those owners were capturing leads the same way: a Facebook post or boosted ad, a Marketplace listing, or a homepage with no prices and a "DM for pricing" button. Each of those channels makes it free to ask the price and leave.
What do price shoppers actually cost you?
Time, mostly. Every "how much for tint?" message takes a reply, a quote and often a follow-up. If you're installing all day, those minutes come out of your evenings, and the serious buyer who messaged at the same time waits. Slow replies to good leads cost more than the bad leads do.
- Replying to quote requests that never book.
- Discounting to win jobs you shouldn't have to discount.
- Booking no-shows who found a cheaper shop the night before.
- Missing serious buyers because you were busy answering bargain hunters.
How to filter out price shoppers: five changes
Show prices or package ranges before anyone contacts you, ask about the vehicle and timeframe in the form, lead your ads with results and protection instead of discounts, reply within minutes, and confirm the quote on the phone before booking.
- 01
Show the price before the call
Put package prices or ranges on the page your ads send people to. A buyer who sees $450 for a full car of ceramic tint and still fills in the form has accepted the price. The one who wanted $99 leaves without costing you a reply.
- 02
Ask the questions an installer would ask
Vehicle, service, coverage or package, and how soon. Four short fields. Serious buyers answer them; tire kickers rarely do.
- 03
Sell the result, not the discount
Ads that lead with heat rejection, years of protection or a showroom interior attract people who value those things. Ads that lead with "50% off" attract people who value 50% off.
- 04
Answer in minutes
The buyer ready to book this week is usually messaging two or three shops. The first good reply often wins. An instant text reply plus a call soon after beats any discount.
- 05
Confirm the quote on the call
Before booking, confirm the vehicle, the job and the price out loud. No surprises at the shop means fewer no-shows and no haggling at drop-off.
What price shopping looks like in each service
| Service | Typical price-shopper ask | What filters it |
|---|---|---|
| Window tint | "How much for the front two?" chasing $99 specials | Full-car and ceramic film prices shown, vehicle asked |
| Ceramic coating | "How much is ceramic?" expecting a spray wax price | Package tiers with years of protection and warranty |
| PPF | Full front coverage at a partial front price | Coverage options priced, vehicle and coverage asked |
| Detailing | Cheapest wash, then add-ons argued down | Packages with what's included, condition asked |
Industry pages: window tint, ceramic coating, PPF, detailing.
Should I lower my prices to compete with cheaper shops?
Usually not. Cheaper shops win the customers who choose on price, and those customers are the least loyal and the most likely to leave a bad review. Competing on price shrinks your margin and fills your week with the wrong jobs. Reaching more buyers who value quality is the better move.
Some shops do run a low-priced front-window offer to get cars in, then upsell. It can work if the upsell process is strong, but it also trains your area to expect the low price. If you do it, keep it separate from your main campaigns and track what it costs you per profitable job.
How Motorgrowth filters price shoppers
The whole Motorgrowth system is built to filter out price shoppers. Ads lead with results, every ad sends people to a landing page with your prices, reviews and work photos, the form asks the qualifying questions, and our team calls each lead and confirms the quote before booking.
See how it works or book a free call.
What should a qualifying form ask?
Four to six short questions: name, phone, vehicle year, make and model, the service and level they want, and when they want it done. Each answer tells you something you'd otherwise ask on the phone, and each one makes a tire kicker a little less likely to bother.
| Field | Example options | What it filters |
|---|---|---|
| Vehicle | 2024 Toyota Tacoma | Sets the price before anyone quotes |
| Service | Ceramic tint full car / front two / windshield | Separates real jobs from "just the fronts for $99" |
| Level | Partial front / full front / full body PPF | Shows budget without asking for it |
| Timing | This week / this month / just researching | Sorts ready buyers from browsers |
| Condition | New / good / needs correction | Flags paint correction before the coating quote |
What to say when someone texts "how much?"
Give a real range, ask one qualifying question, and offer a time. A one-line price with no question invites them to compare and vanish. A range plus a question starts a conversation with the buyers worth talking to.
- Tint: "Full car ceramic tint on most sedans is $X to $Y depending on the film. What are you driving? I've got Thursday or Saturday open."
- Coating: "Our coatings run $X for 2 years up to $Y for 5 years of protection. Is the car new or does the paint need correcting first?"
- PPF: "Full front is $X to $Y depending on the car. What year and model is it, and are you thinking full front or the whole car?"
- Detailing: "Full interior and exterior starts at $X for a sedan. How's the inside looking, light clean or full reset?"
Fill in your own numbers. The structure is what matters: price range, one question, one offer of a time. Motorgrowth's CRM sends a first reply like this within seconds, and our team calls soon after.
